Fall/Winter Basics Roundup 2021

Well well well, lookie who is finally (ALMOST) here - at least in Texas! It’s Fall!! Or otherwise known as “fake fall” - where we have a few fantastic cool days, and we are all lulled into thinking that fall is here and we start putting away our tank tops, then BAM, 100 degree heat AGAIN, until REAL fall graces us with her presence.

One of the things I love doing as the seasons change is pulling out all my clothes and see what can be reused and repurposed each season. You’d be surprised at how adding a cardigan over a dress or jumpsuit, or pairing some boots with jeans and a tank can really make something you’ve always had in your closet look completely different! I learn so much about shopping my own closet FIRST from my friend Caroline from The Bluebird Collective

Here is the order in which I tend to “shop” when it comes to changing out things seasonally:

1) My own closet

2) The Bluebird Collective - Caroline sells single pieces, but also can work with you to do a full, customized, sustainable capsule wardrobe of second hand items. I LOVE THIS OPTION, and it’s usually my go to!

3) Sustainable Clothing Brands - My favorites are Pact (use this link for 20% off your first order), Able, some Madewell, and Marine Layer. I’m sure there are many more out there, but these fit with my style the most and routinely have sales in which I can find a good bargain staple piece.

4) Chain Stores - yes, I do shop at places like Old Navy and Target…the really cool thing is that, especially at Target, if you look, you can find more and more pieces that are marked “sustainable made” with responsibly sourced denim and cotton. It just takes a little digging and you’ll be surprised at what you may find!

I tend to do a little bit of all of the above. Sometimes I spring for a really sustainable organic option, and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I scour poshmark for second hand option or chat with my girl Caroline from The Bluebird Collective about what items she has in stock, and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I hit up the sale rack at Gap, Old Navy, or Target, ands sometimes I don’t. I never claim to be perfect in this regard, but always mindful! If I try something on, I feel like it’s a good quality, will be reused seasonally, and I feel great in it, I will often purchase it even if it doesn’t check all my sustainable boxes.

This fall, I find myself being drawn to what I call transitional pieces. Basics that can be layered for added warmth as it gets cooler, and that can also be dressed up or down depending on your mood. I’m gravitating towards jumpsuits, dresses, chunky sweaters, and loose fit jeans, and muted camel tones along with light blues and greens.

I’ve put together my list of favorites for this fall, and there’s a little bit of everything here! We’ve got affordable options, sustainable and ethical options, Amazon options, and everything in between! Let me know if I’m missing anything that’s on your must-have fall list! Here are a few snaps of me with some of the items I snagged!

Here are links directly to all the items I’m loving as well! I’ll add more pictures of me wearing everything as I get them, but I wanted to get these items up just in type for any upcoming memorial day sales!
